ABOUT

Doug Hansen’s years of art studies, combined with his artisan skills, have given rise to multiple inventive styles that integrate mixed media, wood craft and organic elements into unexpected three-dimensional works.

ARTISTS BIOGRAPHY

In 1958, Doug’s second-grade teacher chastised him for drawing outside the lines. “Once I recovered from the shock, I recall a tingle of joy from doing the unexpected.”  Crayons and construction paper became pen and ink, which gave way to felt markers and layout pads, then computer, mouse and monitor. Some years later, he turned to brushes and oils.
During his richly textured, three-decade career, Doug has created countless print advertising and direct mail campaigns, directed television commercials, and designed logos and annual reports for some of the world’s largest corporations. He has evolved from graphic designer to art director, from creative director to ad agency owner, all while pursing fine art as his true vocation.

A Seattle native, Doug Hansen currently lives and works in Langley, WA. He holds degrees from the University of Washington and the Burnley School of Art. He has been a guest lecturer at the University of Washington and the University of Oregon. When he is not painting, Doug enjoys the outdoors and delights in occasional visits from his artful daughter and son (Creative Kin), neither of whom stay within the lines either.
